[Thenublk] Kassandra Gordon: Spoken Word Artist and Founder of Grape Soup Jewellry

Introduce yourself

Kassandra Gordon, Jewellery Designer and Poet/Spoken Word Artist.  A child of Jamaican parents I was born in Stoke-On-Trent and having lived in various places in the UK now call East London home.

I have been writing and performing poetry for the last 3 years. This year I founded jewelry line Grape Soup – the name was chosen to reflect the jewelry designs: a mixture of ingredients, sweet and savoury, original, seasoned with poetry.

Favourite song lyric

It could all be so simple
But you’d rather make it hard
Loving you is like a battle

And we both end up with scars

– Lauryn Hill, Ex-Factor

I’m inspired by

People who never give up and become successful. Grape Soup is inspired by poetry and life. I feel felt that words are very powerful and allow us to interpret the world. Literally, they allow us to make statements: explain to others our beliefs what we feel and what we want. As a jewellery designer, I have invented a way to express my words,  show my interpretation of the world and to preserve experiences/thoughts physically with what I make with my hands; to make a physical; metaphorical statements.

My icons past & present

Nanny and the Maroons, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Brandy, Monica, Kelis, Erykah Badu.
