thenublack art show: Call for Artist submissions

In October of 2008, Graphic designer Gabrielle Smith set herself a challenge to blog about contemporary culture of the African Diaspora as a new approach to celebrating Black History Month in the UK. Through photographs, news articles, video, and profiles of young creatives – thenublack was formed.

Thenublack celebrates the creative talents of her generation – those born to parents of the African Diaspora who have had a path paved for them by their ascendants.

Although we may not have experienced first-hand the effects that many of those well known figures had on the world, there’s hope that we’re aspiring to be equally as great, as revolutionary and box breaking as they were and still are.

2010 will be the second year since thenublack was founded, and so to celebrate this, Thenublack will be putting on an art show in London, to display pieces of work from a range of contemporary artists of African descent.

Artists are asked to submit work which fit any of these themes:

+ Continuing a cultural legacy              + Icons past and present                        + A nod to the past

+Celebrating contemporary Black culture            +I am thenublack (see introduction)
