It may not have been the hottest day of the year (25 degrees ain’t bad!) but it was the perfect setting for the day long celebration of Spike Lee’s ‘Do The Right Thing’ which took place at Hackney’s iconic Rio Cinema. Filled with over 300 of London’s flyest dressed movie goers you may have thought you were back in the 80s.
As the credits rolled it was time to head to Shutterbug for the block party. With a photobooth, and chalk murals supplied by London’s creative duo Quirksville the ambience of a scorching Bed Stuy block was brought to the streets of London.
With sounds from Afrofusion specialist DJ Aries, DJ Dele (who kept the crowd dancing util the early hours of the morning) and Amplified who brought musical vibes from their annual pre-New Years bash to the party kept everyone on their feet and through a number of dance-offs throughout the course of the day!
Not wanting to leave out the football lovers, all of the World Cup matches for the day were screened in Shutterbug’s brightly coloured courtyard. Each game’s goals were met with rapturous celebration, near misses were meant with tense frowns and frustration as fans of Ghana’s Black Stars and Nigeria’s Super Eagles came out to support their teams in full force.
The chilled vibes which ran throughout the day eventually came to a close with accompanied by the sounds of Hip-Hop and Soul classics which set the theme for the day.
A huge thank you to everyone who Thenublk enlisted to make DTRT25 memorable: We Are Parable, Rio Cinema and Shutterbug. Our selecta’s: Amplified, DJ Aries, and DJ Dele and our visual artists Justina Bailey & Naomi Ray (Quirksville) and Amit Patel (SneakerPrintsUK).
