[Iamthenublk] Fola Buck & Mundia Situmbeko of Black Girl Flow: Discovering talents, Inspiring hearts, Engaging minds

Introduce yourself
When we (Mundia and Fola) met through a mutual friend back in 2008, neither of us knew that we would become Blackgirlflow; it’s our space to celebrate all things good coming out of Africa and the Diaspora. We consider it an extension of the conversations we have everyday. We bring our Southern and West African roots together with our experience in the West to discover talents, engage minds and inspire hearts. It is by learning from each other that we can truly learn.
Favourite song lyric
“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds”
Redemption Song, Bob Marley
” If you don’t like the peach, walk on by the tree”
‘Chokin Kind’, Joe Simon
We are inspired by

Various things, but more so when in an environment full of creative people. Something about it, perhaps it’s the buzz and energy or the sense of freedom that comes with indulging in and appreciating the manifestation of people’s gifts. Africa is our main inspiration; the beauty, the diversity, the fusion of cultures and most of all, the positivity and resilience that comes out of the hearts of the African people despite ongoing hardship.
Icons past & present

There are several people who stand out to us; including Chouchou Namegabe, Kwame Nkrumah, Thomas Sankara, Chiamanda Ngozi Adichie, Femi Martin, Wangari Maathai…the list is endless.
The nublk philosophy

Accept who you are with all your complexities, wether it be a situation similar to ours, trying to reconcile being of African decent and living in the UK or something else. Go out and explore the world, meet new people, experience different cultures and ask lots of questions, your life will be richer for it.
