[Iamthenublack] Brandon Frame of The Black Man Can – Promoting a positive Black male image

| On 23, Jan 2012

Introduce yourself

My name is Brandon Frame and I’m the Chief Visionary Officer of TheBlackManCan and also the Director of Business Partnerships and Development at High School, Inc.

TheBlackManCan was started with the sole purpose of promoting a positive Black male image. In life you are told to be the change you want to see in the world and TheBlackManCan is one endeavor in which I can do exactly that for society. I tell and show positive narratives and images of Black Men and Boys!! We are trying to provide the positive contradiction to the prevailing Black male image of today.

Favourite song lyric

I don’t have a favorite lyric but the following is one I use in one of my workshops entitled The Lyrical Lessons:

And so I write this for my brothas on the corner.

Love you cause you my brother so I feel I got to warn ya.

This shit ain’t set up for a young brother to advance.

On that note, you brothas playing right into their hands.

Damn, better get yourself some goals, you brothas better dream.

I know the hood raised you but there’s bigger better things!

I’m inspired by

Anyone who constantly works hard to be the best they can be. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X also inspire me. As I always say, I’m so inspired by Martin and Malcolm yet so inspired to sketch my own path!

My icons past/present

My Grandfather laid the foundation for me, I am the man I am today because of his words and actions. All the brothas I have featured on TheBlackManCan are icons to me. All of the stories push me to continue with the mission of TheBlackManCan.

Lastly, my ancestors, I know that I must continue to carry the torch. My stride is wide because I walk in the footsteps of giants. I stand tall because I am on their shoulders!

Thenublack philosophy/mantra

I have several I have left with my students and MENtees
