iamthenublack: Darrin Michelle of Little Shop

Introduce yourself

Darrin Michelle, Washington DC born and Annapolis, Maryland raised. I am a graphic designer who has a love for the simple and fun. I am the owner and art director of LITTLE shop clothing-a place that provides limited art and clothing for the child-like soul which is heavily influenced by my childhood, faith and ever changing culture that we live in as young adults. I have an immense love for Maryland, cherry coke, Shirley temples, Beetlejuice and funnel cake!

Favourite lyric from a song?

“My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will disprove your faith in man”

– Fiona Apple, Fast as You Can

I love this because as mean as it is, it’s raw and real and sometimes you feel like that from time to time

Who and what inspires you?

Other creative people inspire me. I love finding people outside of my medium who are doing exactly what they want to do and how they want to do it while keeping a sense of morale and integrity. Mama clothing, the hundreds, Johnny cupcakes, Kat von d, and vintage vandalizm inspire me; people who have found their voice and are making it heard and known.

My childhood and faith inspire me on a daily basis, reminding me to do it all for love and not gain and to keep my mind on the things that matter most to me which are love and integrity.

Icons, past and present

My mom, Betsey Johnson, Gabriella davi-khorasanee, kat von d, Dave quiggle, marc Jacobs, Kelly towles and batman!

thenublack philosophy/mantra according to Darrin Michelle

“Deal with yourself as a individual, worth of respect and make everyone else deal with you the same way.”

Nikki Giovanni said it better than any of us could!
