iamthenublack: Aliya S. King

Remember the photos from the Malcolm Shabazz interview by Giant Magazine? I’d really wanted to get hold of the journalist behind the piece as it was so insightful….I’m happy to say that I managed to get hold of her and send over the Q&A questions – hope you enjoy it.

fav lyric from a song

“Cuz when you’re a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother

And everybody needs you more than the other

It’s so very easy to lose you

When there’s so many other things to do…”

Woman First – Kindred

who and what inspires you?

My husband inspires me. He decided he wanted to go back to school. Applied to a masters program at Columbia, and he got in… And he’s doing his thing. He keeps me on my toes because we’re very competitive.

Icons, past & present

Zora Neale Hurston, Octavia Butler and my high school English teacher, Lillie Gist.
