[Trailer] First Look at Nosa Igbenidion’s African Superhero short film ‘Rise of the Orisha’

After successfully gaining funding via indiegogo, filmmaker Nosa Igbenidion recently released a trailer for his upcoming African Superhero short film ‘Rise of the Orisha‘. Set for release in May, the film puts West African folklore in a modern day British setting.

Rise of the Orisha focuses on a young woman named Adesuwa who has the unique ability to transform into the fearsome warrior goddess, Oya, the Orisha of change. When she changes, she gains amazing abilities. We follow Adesuwa as she goes on a head-stomping mission to keep the doorway between the Orisha and humanity closed. Be prepared for an action packed , mystical adventure as we explore the world of the Orisha.

In recent years films such as Pumzi and Afronauts have set diverse African and African Diasporic narratives in a new light and I feel that Rise of The Orisha will do the same with opening up the avenues for action and superhero films featuring Black characters.
