[Event] Numbi Arts in conversation with Afrobeat veteran Tony Allen + Afro Disco at Rich Mix

“Without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat.”

– Fela Kuti

Words from a musician many would attribute to being the father of the Afrobeat genre, to Fela Kuti – drummer and composer Tony Allen is the man Kuti attributes to adding the rhythm to the well loved sound.

It’s stories such as these that have been featured in Allen’s autobiography ‘Tony Allen: Master Drummer of Afrobeat’ of which he’ll be a guest speaker at Numbi Arts last event of the year taking place at East London’s cultural hub Rich Mix.

Allen will be speaking to Numbi’s resident artist Elmi Ali about his work as a musician at the event and also signing copies of his book. The event which has been put on in partnership with the Royal African Society will end with an Afro Disco party encapsulating the vibrant sounds of Afrobeat and dance moves from Soul Train.

With a live performance from Mr Allen himself I’d say this event is a must…don’t forget your dancing shoes!
