[Places + Spaces] Soboye: East London’s Eclectic African Delight

The first of our new features for the year, from boutiques, to galleries, restaurants and bookshops –  Places + Spaces will take a look at some of the hidden gems and cool locations in cities around the world.

Soboye

Located on a quiet street in East London’s trendy Shoreditch Soboye is a fashion boutique named after its owner Samson Soboye. The store stocks a number of unique pieces including home furnishings, shoes and jewellery.

Soboye graduated from the world renowned Central Saint Martins Art School and has a background in interior and fashion design. He saw an opportunity through his passion for design to create a unique boutique with an eclectic mix of wares.

“Initially the boutique was created as a form of self expression. It was a creative outlet for my designs as well as friends of mine who were also designers. I wanted to create a cultural, global shopping experience with an Afrocentric emphasis.”

When asked to describe the boutique in just three words, boutique owner Samson Soboye replies: ‘Luxurious, Exciting, Eclectic’ – if you’re ever on Calvert Street and have a moment to stop by the store, you’ll agree.
