[Interview] Yemi Onibiyo of Luxory Decor company House of Arike

The rise in the popularity of ‘African inspired’ fashion and decor has catapulted in the recent years making searching for unique items much easier than previously. It was this very same search for unique home furnishings that inspired founder and creative director Yemi Onibiyo, to start the luxury home decor company House of Arike.

I’ve always been in love with Afrian inspired things and I’ve always loved interior design and things to do with the home so when I purchased my first flat 6 years ago, I was keen to incorporate both of those things and make it personal to me.

I looked all over for the products that were African inspired but when I couldn’t find what I was looking for I thought, ‘wow, this could be a great market for that, why don’t I create something?’ I began doing a lot of research which wasn’t easy as I was still working a full time job but I knew if I didn’t do it now I wasn’t ever going to start so I’ve really pushed myself this past year to just go for it.

The positive reception that I’ve received from people who’ve seen the products has definitely been a highlight for me as it’s not just something that I love but also something that other people love as well.
