[re:cap] The Year That Was 2012

recap

So 2012 is almost coming to a close…time really seems to have flown! Our 4th year has been hard work but one of the most rewarding. We’re thankful for being given the opportunity to collaborate with likeminded people on some great projects as well as continuing to showcase the best of the creative world on our platform.

Having the opportunity to travel to Austin and survive two weeks of  the best of tech, film and music at SXSW was an unforgettable experience and a great start to the year. June saw our second exhibition take place – a joint collaboration with the forFATHERS project, More Than XY took place on Father’s Day in Hackney and then moved on to the Bernie Grant Arts Centre where it was well received. It was great getting to work with some of the artists from the first show as well as international artists from Grenada and the US.

2012 was also the year we got a sneak peak into the life of student filmmaker Xavier Burgin’s journey to grad school. Having first featured him on the site it was a pleasure to be able to have him share the trials and tribulations of student life as well as seeing his work and skill as a filmmaker progress.

Summer called for a little R&R with a trip to NYC where we supported the forFATHERS project at their Summertime Cookout at the Freebrook Academy as well as experiencing the Afro Punk Festival and Labour Day Carnival for the first (and hopefully not the last) time. We celebrated our 4th year in style alongside Parlour Magazine at the Tiwani Gallery amongst some of London’s emerging black creatives. The night was filled with great vibes and a special preview of ‘AfterGlow’ which was later screened at the London Jazz Festival.

The love and appreciation we’ve been shown this year, not only through blog comments and attendance to our events but also words of encouragement have been a real blessing 🙂

Things will be a little quieter at Thenublk HQ as we work towards rebranding the site and making sure what we deliver is nothing but the best and making sure that you’re getting the most out of what we deliver. I hope that in the mean time you’ll take a look back through our archives and get re-aqquainted with some of our earlier posts. If you have any suggestions or would like to collaborate with us please feel free to get in touch as we’d love to hear from you!

Thank you to those we’ve collaborated with on projects, friends and family, and to you all for your retweets, likes, emails and continued support!

Here’s to 2013 and all of the valuable lessons we’ll learn.
