[Iamthenublack] Tynisha Leon Editor-in-Chief of DASHEEN Magazine: Where Culture Feeds Imagination

Introduce yourself

I’m Tynisha Leon, writer, mango-lover, founder and editor-in-chief of DASHEEN magazine – the online destination where Culture. Feeds. Imagination! I hail from St. Kitts, West, Indies; but I’ve also called St. Croix, Virgin Islands, New York and now Orlando, Florida home. This is the cultural seasoning which I bring to my work, life and loves. I consider myself a cultural warrior and DASHEEN magazine is my frontline post! To that end, I am most keen to use Media to publish, profile and showcase those people and events that LOVE and celebrate the Culture; and in so doing seek to innovate, promote and position a Caribbean people and generation most positively.

Favourite song lyric

This is so genius and I promised myself I wouldn’t cop out.  I’ll ride and die with “my momma taught me better than that!” That lick of a line from DC’s Survivor made even more memorable for Kelly’s inflection. Love it!

I’m inspired by

My God, My Momma, My Culture, My Freedom, My Writer, My Youngsters, My Elders and My Future Babies…

My icons past/present

My Momma—always! & Michele O. (for president)

Thenublack philosophy/mantra (this could be words of advice, a quote, something you live by etc…)

‘… whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’

– Phillipians 4:8
