My name is Sarah Williams and I am the creator and sweat shop laborer of jewelry and accessories line, Free Peoples Rebellion. I created Free Peoples Rebellion in 2008 after garnering positive responses to accessories I created for myself using African fabric my grandmother brought back from Liberia.
Free Peoples Rebellion is a modern and spirited line focused on incorporating African aesthetic in everyday wear through accessories. Free Peoples Rebellion looks to find innovative ways to use African fabric in each of its handmade items. The name Free Peoples Rebellion pays homage to the history of Liberia, which was founded and colonized by freed slaves in America who wanted to move back to Africa. It also describes my customer as well, someone who has a rebellious fashion sense and the free will to choose to make a difference. Partial proceeds from the accessory line are donated to youth organizations in Liberia. I am also a costume designer.
