iamthenublack: Nathalie Bikoro

Introduce yourself

I’m Nathalie Mba Bikoro, a French-Gabonese interdisciplinary artist focusing on Contemporary Live Art Performance through body excavation, film and African vocality. Today I work as an emergent arts curator, directing independent cultural arts and medical initiatives as well as being Lecturer at university and writer in Philosophy, Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts, Film and African Political Cultures.

I also produce projects and collaborate with many arts & cultural schemes initiatives that focus on getting communities together to strengthen confidence in the UK, Germany and across the African continent. I have developed cultural platforms of culture and arts holding events, activities, and exhibitions; and working with collectives such as ArtEvict  & Transitstation Live Arts as a space for showcasing live arts by emerging artists who desire to share their artistic visions in a way they could not do otherwise.

Favourite song lyric

it is up to us to gain some recognition if we stop blaming we could get a better condition.

Africans, Nneka

I’m inspired by

Many African writers & philosophers inspire me because they taught me to think differently about the world I live in. Music and the arts inspire me because creativity, nourished in the right way, can be your biggest power for healing and to move forward. My family & friends back home in Gabon and in Europe inspire and always remind me never to forget all that we can be. Everything I do now is through all the love and hope they have given me to live everyday. From across continents and experiencing a lot of pain, fear and misery, life has taught me only how to love more strongly.

My icons past/present

Chinua Achebe, Walter Rodney, Steve Biko, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkrumah, M. Jackson, Fela Kuti, Che Guevara, Obama, Kafka

Thenublack philosophy/mantra according to Nathalie Bikoro

“It’s about giving love, showing love, doing love, making love, living love, being love, loving love.”
