iamthenublack: Sarah Diouf of Ghubar Magazine

Introduce yourself

My name is Sarah and I’m 22 years old. I was born in Paris and grew up in Ivory Coast. I have an MA in Marketing & Communication. I’m the Editor in Chief of Ghubar Magazine – an online fashion magazine built around multiculturalism.

Favourite song lyric

“If the sky that we look upon

Should tumble and fall

Or the mountain should crumble to the sea

I won’t cry, I won’t cry

No, I won’t shed a tear

Just as long as you stand, stand by me ”

– Marvin Gaye, Stand by Me

I’m inspired by

My inspirations come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

My mum is a beautiful woman who has a strong personality, who taught and keep teaching me so many things, and without who nothing would have been possible.

My best friend, Amadou is one of the most smartest, cultivated and humble people I know. He is the kind of people who will push you.

Thanks to my parents’ job when I was younger, I have been able to travel early and discover different places, people and cultures. It helps me understanding many things, but I am still learning.

My icons past/present

Well there are a lot of people I appreciate and respect for their work and acts but I can’t call really them “icons”. Kelly Cutrone is an incredible woman; I had the chance to meet her during last New York fashion week. She is simple; she has an amazing and strong personality and works her ass off. Those kinds of people stimulate me.

Thenublack mantra according to Sarah Diouf

“Everything happens for a reason.”

I have this sentence tattooed on my hips. That’s the way I see life. I think we are all here at a certain moment for a reason.
