[Short Film] ‘Love on a Sunday Afternoon’: a beautiful snapshot of love and dance

I saw a teaser for this film on Tumblr a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in love with the look and feel of it. Love on a Sunday afternoon which had its premiere in LA  just last week is a beautiful short film which shares a day in the life of a young couple who experience the power and beauty of love between each other and among friends. The sounds of Janelle Monae fit perfectly with the film which features dancers who have worked with the likes of Beyonce, Gnarls Barkley and on shows such as the Lion King (I just noticed that one of the dancers, who’s also featured in the poster is A from Awkward Black Girl who I had no idea is a professional dancer!).

My goal with this film was to expand the view of Black culture and Black dancers.  We are more than just a good booty pop.  We are versatile.  We are technical.  And we don’t want to be underestimated.  I am hoping that this film will inspire you and make your day a little brighter.

– Jamila Glass, director & dancer

Check out the film below and also take a look at The Cutting Room’s Tumblr and YouTube pages which feature more of Jamila’s beautiful work.
