T-Shirt Tuesdays: thenublack x Grenada

Came back from Grenada last week Thursday…apart from having the most ridiculous tan ever, it was a great trip. My cousins and I hadn’t been together since 2000 so it was a 10 year comeback – nothing had really changed which is one of the nice things about Grenada. Although there are a lot of new developments happening on the island, it still manages to remain less touristy than some of the other Caribbean islands.

Working in a news enviroment, I spent the first few days getting annoyed at how slow everything was but in the end I just gave in…Grenadian people aren’t hurrying for ANYONE.

I took a couple of thenublack tees with me, and I’m glad I did. We spent a lot of time hanging out in one of the local shops near my gran’s house with local artists Luni Spark and Electrify (brothers Kelson and Kellon Ogiste). I came to find out that they were Soca Monarch’s in 2008, they were also selected to represent Grenada in the international Soca Monarch competition (they came 5th). They tour around the different parishes speaking messages of non-violence – pretty impressive right? What’s even more dope is that their mother Lady Cynthi was the first ever Soca Monarch in Grenada in the early 80s!

I pretty much jumped on the opportunity to do a photoshoot with them the minute we met and so a day before we were meant to head back home I did a shoot with them. My cousin who’s a photographer took the photos and worked with me to get the best feel of Grenada, we also managed to get our other cousin to model for us – I keep it in the FAMLAY, lol.

There were over 100 photos, 45 of which I’d say were my favourite…I managed to narrow it down to 7 (not an easy job!):
